Originally from the small town of Ashland, Ohio, Rebekah Brown started dancing at age seven at Opus II Dance Studio. She received a BFA in Dance Performance from the State University of New York at Buffalo, and while there, pioneered a study abroad program with the University of Chichester in England. Following her undergraduate studies, she continued her performing arts education, completing her MFA in Choreography from Mills College, where she received the E.L. Weigand Award for Innovation in Choreography. Rebekah has been a dance teacher for almost 20 years, drawing on inspiration from her training in ballet, modern, and jazz. Her teaching style is based in foundational technique warmup and movement exercises followed by broad, musical phrase work. Her classes give the opportunity for dancers to hone their technique, explore nuances and challenges in movement, and experience dancing together in an encouraging space. In addition to choreographing for The Ballet Company, Rebekah is also a teaching artist for San Diego Dance Theater. As the founder of H2O Dance Company, she has produced and choreographed four evening-length performances (2015, 2019, 2022, 2023), as well as various projects in San Diego, Los Angeles, Santa Monica, the Bay Area, and Ohio. H2O is a small, project-based contemporary modern dance company founded in 2015 with the mission to create inspiring, accessible dance work while providing a space where artists can be supported and create community. Partnering with Emily Miller, she is the co-curator for Fresh Dances, a yearly choreographic opportunity for dance-makers to create work in a safe and equality-driven platform. She also collaborates with Ian Isles to curate ArtMOVES, the dance stage at ArtWalk San Diego in Little Italy, and works with the creative team at Awaken Church on musical productions and items throughout the year. Ms. Rebekah is in her 3rd season as a resident faculty member at The Ballet Company, where she specializes in choreography for productions and special works for The Performing Company.
