TBC’s annual Placement Exams offer students, parents and faculty a way to track all areas of progress within a graded curriculum. Here at TBC, we utilize American Ballet Theatre’s National Training Curriculum, and level placement is based on the guidelines within. While dancers’ placement and progress are tracked and evaluated throughout the season, the exam process offers many benefits: an additional Performance Opportunity for dancers, a time for parents to come inside the classroom and receive insight to the classical technique training experience, and a time for Faculty to fully observe and offer constructive feedback to each student. Students are adjudicated on whether they demonstrate a clear understanding of theory, concepts, etiquette, artistic development and technical proficiency for their current level placement.
During exam week, auditions will be held for our fall production of Sgt Pepper's Nutcracker & The Performing Company. Dancers in Primary C & up are eligible to audition for The Nutcracker. Dancers ages 10 & Up are eligible for The Performing Company.
This year, your registration will automatically rollover to next season! Dancers will receive their placement and schedule for next year immediately following their exams. Please contact us if you need to make any changes to your enrollment, otherwise, no action is needed.
To ensure uniforms arrive in time for the start of the new season, uniform orders are due on your dancers exam day. Please stop by the front desk to have your dancers try on uniform items for size. Uniform Bundle orders placed on exam day will receive a 25% discount. If you are unable to place your order in person, please complete your order in your Parent Portal below.
Dancers will be required to wear their class uniform to their exams and auditions. Females should wear their class leotard with matching skirt, hair in a properly placed high classical ballet bun, with performance tights & ballet shoes in clean condition. Males should wear their class uniform, with neat hair. Hair bows will be borrowed from TBC for the day. If your dancer is missing any of these items, please check in with the front desk ASAP.
Each student is permitted to invite 2 family members / friends to observe (exam portion only / no audience for auditions). Parents, we strongly encourage you to attend! It is wonderful to get an insight into your dancer’s classroom training process, and see another aspect of what their dance studies entail.
TBC students are welcome and encouraged to observe all exams - they do not need an invitation, and they do not count as the one of your 2 invitees. This is a great way to show up & support your fellow classmates, as well as gain an understanding of what is expected in each level of our curriculum.
Please join us for refreshments & light snacks following the exam with the opportunity to get to know their teachers. You will be able to confirm your registration, tuition and schedule for next season, and complete your uniform orders, ensuring we receive them before our new season starts.
All dancers are required to participate in auditions as part of the exam process.
Auditions are held during exam week for the Fall 2026 session: Nutcracker 2026 (additional roles) + The Performing Company. Please Note: If your dancer is not interested in either of these additional training options or is unsure of their schedule for the Fall, they should still participate in the audition process and outline their specific interests/schedule concerns on their audition form.
Regardless of your individual goals in the audition or the outcome of, the audition process is an integral part of performing arts training and a valuable tool for every student.
