HAIR & MAKE-UP

Make-Up

Dancers of all ages should wear classical ballet stage make-up.

The purpose of stage make-up is to highlight your natural facial features so they will be seen from a distance under the bright stage lights.

PRIMARY DANCERS

Primary Dancers should wear light stage make-up. Please send your Primary dancer with all make-up done, except for lip color. Once they are in costume, our dressing room supervisors will assist dancers with applying their lip color.

  • Eye Shadow in the eye crease (Violet works well)
  • Mascara
  • Dark Brown/Black Eye Liner (If this is a struggle, it is ok to skip it for Primary A dancers)
  • White Eye Liner or shadow (Nice option to brighten the eyes on stage)
  • Neutral pink lip liner (No gloss or lipstick please. Lipliner stays on better and helps to avoid smudging / getting on costumes and arms. Please send your child’s lip liner with them to the theatre so we can help them apply it before they go onstage.)
  • Pink / Light Blush

GIRLS STAGE MAKE-UP

CD & PPD DANCERS (Levels 1-6)

All of the above (listed under Primary), with the following additions / alternatives:

  • Mauve Lip liner / lipstick as works with skin tone

TEENAGE FEMALE STAGE MAKE-UP

MALE DANCERS (Levels 1-6)

Male Dancers will need some basic make-up to highlight their features under the stage lights. See the Tutorial below.
